LUCKNOW - With temperatures dipping across northern India, elephants at the Lucknow zoo are being given mustard oil massages to keep them warm.

They are also given warm baths in winter.

Two mahouts have been given this responsibility.

The elephants are massaged around three to four times in a week.

“We frequently give oil massages to elephants in the zoo. As the cold increases, the frequency of oil massage also increases. Generally, we give a massage once or twice in a week. But now we provide massage three to four times in a week,” said Renu Singh, the Director of Lucknow Zoo.

She added that the massage with mustard oil works as an antibiotic for them. (ANI)
