ISLAMABAD - The Governor of Pakistan’s Punjab province, Salman Taseer, has said the PPP can defeat any political party, if mid-term polls are held, as the party enjoys a great public support.
Addressing a public gathering on the second death anniversary of slain party chairperson Benazir Bhutto on Sunday, Taseer said that the federal government would complete its constitutional term, and the president won’t give in to ‘jugglery’ of a few people who are demanding resignation of a democratically elected president.
The News quoted Taseer as saying that Zardari was not appointed by a martial law order and that the same assembly had elected the President and the Prime Minister. Hence, it is up to Zardari and Gilani to decide how they want to share power.
Predicting that mid-term polls would not be held, Taseer said that democracy would not be derailed as the government was destined to complete its term.
He also pointed out that for the first time in Pakistan’s history, there is no political prisoner in any jail of Pakistan. (ANI)
