WEST MIDNAPORE - The 165th battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has set-up medical camps in Maoist infested West Midnapore region of West Bengal, to create confidence among villagers.

Organized in the Belpahari area, the camp is witnessing large participation from villagers suffering from various ailments.

Villagers said the medical camp has been a boon to them.

“The medical camp is beneficial for all the villagers. Most of the people here are suffering from one or the other disease. Now we are satisfied as a medical camp has been organized,” said Madan Singh, a villager.

Even CRPF personnel were satisfied on the response from the villagers.

“We are getting a good response from villagers. And most of the patients out here are suffering from severe anaemia, ” said L Patri, a medical officer of CRPF.

The strong Maoist presence in Belpahari can be gauged by the fact that a number of gun totting rebels can be seen patrolling the area in the broad daylight.

The Maoist violence is estimated to have causes 600 to 700 deaths annually and the displacement 100,000 civilians. It has spread to 182 of India’s 602 districts and has been declared as the country’s single biggest internal security challenge.

The main objective of the Maoists is to prevent the development of infrastructure in remote areas, which so far has remained their exclusive domain. (ANI)
