ALLAHABAD - Scores of women gathered on the banks of the River Yamuna here on Tuesday to celebrate the festival of ‘Sunder Dooj’.

During this festival they apply traditional traditional cleansing stuff on their body and take a dip in the holy waters, believing that they would turn beauties in their next birth.

Women applied chickpea flour and curd on their body, chant hymns and conducted rituals on the riverbank on this occasion.

“On this day people become beautiful for the entire life by applying chickpea flour and curd on their body and taking bath in river,” said Seema, a devotee.

Deepa, another devotee who is seeking beauty in her next life said: “I am here to take bath because I am not beautiful in this birth but after taking bath today, I will become beautiful in my next birth.”

A priest Acharya Ganesh Prasad Mishra said it was a centuries-old tradition in the region. (ANI)
