SAMUAPARA VILLAGE - Residents of Samuapara, a small hamlet to the north of Guwahati, have benefited from the various schemes meant for the socio-economic upliftment of the people.

People here believe in self-employment and are primarily engaged in farming and weaving.

Interestingly, Samuapara remained peaceful while rest of Assam was affected by militancy.

We met Jayomoti Das and his family in the village. Jayomoti is engaged in weaving and manages her family well.

“We weave clothes on looms and make some money. It adds to our family income. We are also engaged in rearing cattle, practice poultry farming and also work as manual workers,” said Jayomoti Das, a loom weaver.

“Many women work on looms and sell what they make themselves. We need government assistance to sell the products. The villagers are weaving cloths for personal use and selling them as well,” said Prashnna Das, a local resident. any Central Government sponsored schemes including the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) have been implemented in the village.

It has better road connectivity now and villagers can commute to different places without hassle.

“Earlier, the roads were in bad shape, but they have improved now and are being constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojana (PMGSY),” said Amulya Das, a local resident.

Moreover, work is in progress to ensure that villagers, who were so far using solar lights, get access to electricity soon.

On visiting this place, one can notice electric poles and wires laid in the village.

“Work is going on to ensure that electricity reaches the village and we are expecting it to be completed soon. It will benefit us a lot,” said Govind Das, a local resident.

The villagers are keen to develop infrastructure and seek the establishment of primary and secondary schools. By Sanjay Bora (ANI)
