Pepco gets federal grants for smart grids

WASHINGTON — Utility Pepco Holdings Inc. said Wednesday that it signed agreements with the U.S. Department of Energy for $168.1 million in grants for smart-grid projects that are meant to help manage the use of energy.

The agreements include three grants, $149.4 million of which is going to Pepco for its projects in Maryland, New Jersey and the District of Columbia. The balance will go to Atlantic City Electric for smart grid projects, too.

Pepco said the projects are set to start on Monday.
