Learning Tree pays $4.5M to settle invoice claims
WASHINGTON — Learning Tree International Inc. will pay $4.5 million to resolve allegations that it improperly invoiced federal agencies and kept money for training courses that were not provided, the Department of Justice said Wednesday.
Under its contract, Learning Tree sells information technology training courses to the federal government in multi-course packages and must only invoice the government after services are provided.
The government alleged that Learning Tree invoiced federal agencies in advance for the packages, before employees had attended the full number of courses available. And the government alleged that when the training packages expired, Learning Tree kept the funds connected with the unused courses without providing a refund or credit.
A Learning Tree spokesperson wasn’t immediately available for comment.
Learning Tree shares fell 25 cents to $14.25 in morning trading.
