Clarification: Congressional Mailings-Top 20

WASHINGTON — In a list accompanying a March 26 story, The Associated Press included Rep. Lamar Smith, R-Texas, among the 20 House members who most used taxpayer-funded mass communications in 2009. The list was based on information from the House Legislative Resource Center. After the article was published, Smith’s office said it had provided incorrect information to the Resource Center that confused the value of the communications with the number of pieces mailed. Based on that, Smith would not be on the list of the top 20 spenders.
