LONDON - Barbie has been given a new transformation to appeal to 21st century youngsters.
Brainchild of Barbie designer, Stacey McBride, the In style new range includes Barbie in mixed race and black dolls forms, reports The Daily Express.
There are four new characters, including a male doll, and all are dressed in mini versions of Rocawear, the fashion label by superstar Beyonce’s rapper husband, Jay Z.
Speaking from her LA office, Stacey said: “I saw that my young daughter wasn’t as interested in dolls as I had been as a child and I wondered if it was because the dolls weren’t reflective of her own African American community. I wanted to create something which she and her friends could relate to.
“It was exciting to work on something new and ground-breaking. I wanted African American girls to know that dolls can represent their career aspirations, hobbies and ethnic backgrounds. When I as young Barbie inspired me to become a designer and now I want my dolls to inspire girls to play, create and live out their own dreams.”(ANI)
