LONDON - Hate preacher Abu Hamza’s fight against extradition have cost the British taxpayers over 100,000 pounds in legal aid and court costs.

The 51-year-old cleric, jailed for seven years in 2007 for inciting murder and stirring up racial hatred, is running up the legal aid bill as he battles against his extradition to the US on terror charges.

The revelation follows last week’s announcement that legal aid chiefs can finally seize Hamza’s house in Greenford, West London, The Sun reports.

It will be sold to pay some of the 300,000 pounds cost of his defence. Officials hope to raise 280,000 pounds from the sale.

Hamza, an Egyptian national, has been fighting extradition to the US since 2004, where he is accused of helping to set up terrorist training camps.

The jailed cleric is in the process of appealing against the extradition to the European Court of Human Rights, arguing that he would receive inhumane treatment in the US. (ANI)
