Trump reveals master plan for ‘world’s greatest golf course’ in Scotland

LONDON - American tycoon Donald Trump has revealed his master plan for “the greatest golf course in the world” to be built on a windswept stretch of Scottish coastline.

According to The Times, Trump’s controversial proposals will include a new village, complete with shops, pubs and cafes.

Trump International Scotland received outline planning permission for the billion pound development from the Scottish government in December 2008.

It has now submitted the overarching plan for the site, along with the detailed designs for the championship golf course, to Aberdeenshire Council for full permission.

Approval for the next two phases of the development - the hotel and holiday accommodation, and the residential village - is still to be sought.

“This is another significant step towards our goal of building the world’s greatest golf course and resort in Aberdeenshire,” The Times quoted Trump, whose mother was born in Scotland, as saying.

However, to realise his vision, Trump still requires five plots of land owned by other parties.

Four of them have homes on them, and some residents have been adamant they will not sell up.

The development has polarised opinion in the North East of Scotland and beyond, with some claiming it to be the best thing for the region since oil was discovered in the North Sea, and others decrying its environmental impact.

Trump, however, appears confident he will realise his dream and preparatory work has already begun on stabilising the sand dunes for the development.he master plan for the 1,400-acre site at Menie, drawn up by Gareth Hoskins Architects, was a requirement of the outline planning approval for the development of a golf course and resort.

Other work, which has been undertaken in the past year, includes plans for water management and for sustainable urban drainage systems for the championship course.

Dr Martin Hawtree, who said it followed “a classic pattern of two out-and-back loops of nine holes”, designed the course.

The drawings and plans from today’s submission are to be exhibited to the public at the Udny Arms Hotel, Newburgh, from March 12-13.

Aberdeenshire Council’s Formartine Area Committee will determine the application later in the year. (ANI)
