Prince William’s Royal Air Force dreams in jeopardy

LONDON - Prince William’s dreams of serving the Royal Air Force in his native UK have reportedly been shot down over the government’s plans to privatise the service.

The second in line to the British throne has been training to become a search and rescue pilot at RAF Valley in Anglesey, North Wales.

But the 27-year-old’s career ambitions appear to have received a blow after defence chiefs decided to go ahead with the sell-off deal.

“He might even find that the new service won’t want him. The armed forces love to be around the Royal Family and put up with all the problems and demands that makes on them,” The Daily Star quoted one RAF veteran as saying.

“But commercial fliers will be doing this to a bottom line and having a royal on the payroll will just be a huge distraction and burden for very little gain,” the veteran added.

A friend of the royal also said: “Wills feels like he’s been very unlucky in his timing. He joined up to be an RAF pilot, not a flying private taxi. He’s committed himself fully to a life of service and training and he has always thought of his future in the RAF.

“He’ll explore the chances of transferring to other duties within the RAF but he knows he’s not going to be flying missions in Afghanistan, so what else is there?” (ANI)
