LONDON - Letters written by late American author J D Salinger are set to go on public display for the first time in New York.

The Catcher in the Rye author was said to have sent the 11 letters to his former neighbour and commercial artist Michael Mitchell.

Declan Kiely, a curator at the Morgan Library, emphasised on the significance of the newly released cache.

“The reason that these letters are especially good is that they are written from a literary artist to a visual artist. So they talk about what it is to struggle as an artist - to struggle with creativity,” The Telegraph quoted Kiely as saying.

The pages apparently help understand the transformation of the writer from a celebrated young author to a recluse furious at the “big shitty world”.alinger withdrew from public life in 1953 to a 90-acre property in New Hampshire. (ANI)
