LONDON - A Polish beekeeper, who fainted after being badly stung, is said to have been buried alive in a coffin after a doctor pronounced him dead.

Jozef Guzy, 76, had collapsed by his hives after being stung, and the doctor who treated him on the spot thought he had suffered a heart attack and declared him dead.

“I could not believe it when they said he was dead. The doctor pulled a sheet over him and three hours later the funeral directors pulled up and put him in a coffin and closed the lid,” the Mirror quoted his wife Ludmila as saying.

After the coffin was taken to the undertakers, Guzy regained consciousness and began banging on the lid.

“He was shouting and banging on the lid and made enough noise to raise the dead. I touched his neck and felt a pulse,” undertaker Darius Charon revealed.

“It’s a true miracle. Thank God I hadn’t nailed the coffin shut,” Charon said.

Guzy was taken to hospital in Katowice, Poland, and released after checks, with the doctor who pronounced him dead apologising to him.

“When we got there he wasn’t breathing, there was no heartbeat and the body had cooled,” an ambulance spokesman said.

Guzy was so glad he escaped being buried alive that he decided to treat the undertaker.

“That undertaker saved my life. The first thing I did when I got out of hospital was take him round a nice jar of honey,” he added. (ANI)
