Prince William ‘to be asked to return Aborigine warrior’s severed head’

LONDON - Australian Aborigines are planning to ask Prince William to help them regain the head of an indigenous warrior who was shot by the British more than 200 years ago.

Elder Michael Mundine of the Aboriginal Housing Company intends to make the request to the second in line to the British throne when he visits the country next week.

Mundine said he trusted the royal would help recover the remains of Pemulwuy, whose head was sent to England in a glass jar in 1802, and the remains of other aborigines killed and collected by the British during colonisation. He is from a different generation and, because he is young, I think he will understand that Pemulwuy needs to come home to his lands,” the Telegraph quoted Mundine as telling The Australian newspaper.

Rob Welsh, who chairs the Metropolitan Local Aboriginal Land Council, added that he, too, thought the late Princess Diana had raised her son “to be respectful, and to understand what is important to our people”. (ANI)
