Portrait company Kiddie Kandids closes 184 studios
SALT LAKE CITY — Children’s portrait studio chain Kiddie Kandids has closed its 184 locations across the U.S. and says it plans to file for Chapter 7 liquidation in bankruptcy court.
The Sandy, Utah-based company said in a statement on its Web site this week that it ceased operations after banks cut off funding.
The company’s statement says business has been “particularly challenged by the economic climate over the past 18 months.” CEO Dale Merrill says the company couldn’t meet its “imminent financial obligations” and had exhausted all avenues for funding.
The company was founded in 1974 and grew to 184 locations nationwide. Most Kiddie Kandids studios are in Babies R Us stores.
