755 police men awarded for gallantry, 18 posthumously

NEW DELHI - Some 755 police personnel, 18 of whom were killed while performing their duties, would be awarded police medals on the occasion of Republic Day Wednesday.
The President’s Police Medals for gallantry would be given to 11 personnel, police medals for gallantry to 129, and President’s Police Medals for distinguished service to 82 personnel.
Those who have been chosen for the President’s Police Medal for gallantry include Inspector General of Chhattisgarh Police Mukesh Gupta, inspector Gurjeet Singh Thakur and assistant sub-inspector Kirit Singh from the state scarred by Leftist insurgency.
From West Bengal the awardees include late Rabi Lochan Mitra, a police inspector who was shot dead by Maoists when he was leading his men in search of Leftist guerrillas in Bankura district last February.
Police medals for meritorious service would be given to 533 personnel.
