Security enhanced along Pakistan border ahead of Republic Day

BASPUR - Security forces have beefed up security in Jammu and Kashmir along Pakistan border ahead of the Republic Day.
Border Security Force (BSF), police personnel and Village Defence Committee (VDC) members in adequate strength have been deployed all along 202-kilometer-long border from Samba to Akhnoor sector in Jammu region.
In Baspur village, which lies along the border, police were seen frisking passersby.
“This area has witnessed air violation from Pakistan and a firing incident. Therefore, ahead of 26 January, Army, BSF and other security forces have been deployed in every street and village and are thoroughly checking the areas,” said Divender Singh.
Gurjinder Singh, border police post In-Charge, Baspur said that higher authorities have ordered to picket total 24 check posts and thorough security checks.
“We have stationed all the check posts ahead of the Republic Day. We have instructions from the higher authorities to station 24 check posts in the area,” he added.
Earlier this week BSF thwarted an attempt by an infiltrator and gunned a militant in Akhnoor sector.
According to security officials, in the backdrop of this incident, the security was strengthened further and 24-hour vigil was being maintained. The police have started random checking of vehicles at various check posts. (ANI)
