India Art Summit Grows In Size

NEW DELHI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- It is actually a big day for the Indian art community. A single week has never been able to bring so much excitement to the community anytime before. The India Art Summit, 2011 has brought in an astonishing crowd who kept thronging Pragati Maidan all through the day. It seemed to be a time of festivity to the people belonging to the art community. Delhi Art Gallery has given the privilege to art lovers all over the country to get a view of some of the amazing art forms from markets all over the world.
the second day of India Art Summit, 2011, roughly drew a good crowd which had people of different ages and tastes. From the first-time visitors, to children, to the serious art lovers. going by the indications from the first two days, the Art Summit held in Delhi seems to be quite a great success. One of the important aspects behind the success of the fair, was the number of sales. Priyanka Raja of Experimenter Gallery from Kolkata, said that the sales had been good. New media art-works by Bani Abidi, Naeem Mohaimeen, and Raqs Media Collective are being showcased by the gallery for the first time. These new media art-works has had 70% of its collection sold, in its maiden exhibition on a National platform.
Umer Butt, creative director of Grey Noise, the first Pakistani gallery at the Summit told a leading news source of the country that they have had 50% of their works sold. This Indian Art gallery has gone into collaboration with Dubai-based gallery Jamjar for bringing in Pakistani artists like Shalalae Jamil and Fahd Burki. India Art Summit, 2011 boasts of having 84 galleries from 20 countries all across the globe. This shows the growth in size of the art summit over the past two editions. The international galleries have doubled itself from 17 in 2010 to 34 this year!
