High level security review in Valley ahead of Republic Day

SRINAGAR - The security situation in Kashmir Valley was reviewed at a high-level meeting here Friday ahead of Republic Day and a proposed march by the BJP to hoist the tricolour at Lal Chowk that day.
Kuldeep Khoda, state director general of police (DGP), who chaired the meeting, laid stress on maintaining strict vigil and caution to thwart the designs of anti-national elements and ensure an incident-free Republic Day throughout the state.
The DGP emphasized the need for close coordination among all security agencies to ensure peaceful observation of the functions, causing least inconvenience to the common people.
“A public friendly approach should be maintained while making security and other arrangements so that the people do not face any problem during their participation in these celebrations,” the state police chief said.
Senior officers of state police, paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Border Security Force (BSF), state intelligence, officers of divisional and district administration attended the meeting.
The meeting assumes significance in the backdrop of the BJP’s proposed Tiranga Yatra to city centre Lal Chowk on Jan 26 and the pro-azadi Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front’s (JKLF) decision to hold a counter march the same day.
The state government has already decided to disallow both the BJP Tiranga Yatra and the JKLF counter march to ensure peaceful, incident free Republic Day celebrations across the Valley on Jan 26.
