DRDO chief Dr. Saraswat honoured at Indian Science Congress

CHENNAI - Scientific Advisor to the Defence Minister and Director-General of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) Dr. Vijay Kumar Saraswat was today honoured with Vikram Sarabhai Memorial Award at the 98th Indian Science Congress (ISC) in Chennai.

Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh gave the awards to twenty-seven leading scientists from across the world including two Nobel laureates.

Dr. Saraswat dedicated the award to the efforts of entire DRDO fraternity who have made India proud by developing cutting edge military technologies for the countries defence.

“My award is a recognition of outstanding contributions made by DRDO team in achieving high level of self reliance in the area of cutting edge defence technologies” said Dr. Saraswat.

Dr. Saraswat will deliver lecture “The Expanding Scope in the Defence Sector”, during the Plenary Session on “Enhancing Academia Industry Interactions” tomorrow, apart from chairing a session on “Strategic Electronic Sector” on January 6.

Union Communications and Information Technology Minister Kapil Sibal inaugurated the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) pavilion. Sibal appreciated the DRDO technologies on display.

DRDO is participating in the “Pride of India - Science Expo - 2011″, organized during January 3 to 7 as part of 98th Indian Science Congress (ISC-2011) at SRM University. (ANI)
