SRINAGAR - The families of two Kashmiri men arrested as militants by the police in Madhya Pradesh claim that they are innocent.
Police in Madhya Pradesh said Friday Shaukat Ahmad Hakim and Mehraj-ud-Din Shergujri, belonging to north Kashmir’s Bandipora district, were arrested in Bhopal on a specific tip off from the Jammu and Kashmir Police regarding their involvement in militancy in north Kashmir areas.
Locals said that while Hakim ran a hand saw business, Shergujri was a shopkeeper in Hajin village of Bandipora district.
Gulam Qadir, father of Mehraj-ud-Din said: My son is a responsible citizen and I fail to understand why he had been dubbed as a militant.
Ghulam Muhammad Hakim, the father of Shaukat Ahmad, however, accepted that his son worked for the separatist Hurriyat conference, but denied he had any militant connections.
He worked for the Hurriyat, but he is definitely not a militant,” the father said.
Police in north Kashmir said they were contacting the Bhopal police to know the exact details.
We are contacting the Bhopal police to know the exact details, a police officer said in Bandipora district Sunday.
