CHENNAI - Union Minister and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leader M K Kanimozhi on Sunday said the image of Tamil Maiyam, a non-governmental organisation, of which she is a functionary as a director is unaffected by the controversy of it having links in the Telecom scam.

“As we’ve been saying it’s a part of the process, why should it affect? We’ve done a lot of good work and I don’t think it has to affect the image of Tamil Maiyam at all,” said Kanimozhi.

Jegath Gasper, founder of this NGO, also reiterated that their forum has got a lot of appreciation from the public and the telecom scam has not really affected them.
He said people realise the integrity of Tamil Maiyam by the work it has done in arts and culture.

“There is never, absolutely no doubt in our mind. We were very sure of Chennai Sangamam, even the public was very sure, everybody was sure and somebody asked about public image and we never knew we enjoyed such you know grassroots level support; in fact I can say I met several people and never imagined people would drop in and say that we are with you go ahead and do something good you have done,” said Gasper.

On December 16, Gasper had said the NGO is not involved in any controversy relating to the 2G-spectrum allocation scam, as it is a well audited charitable trust and its transactions are done through legal instruments

Gasper is also known to be close to the former Union Telecom Minister A. Raja.

Raja was forced to resign last month after a report of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) faulted Raja for undervaluing spectrum to favour companies who were largely ineligible for 2G spectrum, and added that the government had probably lost Rs.1.76 lakh crore in estimated revenue. (ANI)
