Chennai hosts cake exhibition

CHENNAI - A unique cake exhibition, displaying several cakes of different shapes and sizes was held in Tamil Nadu’s Chennai city on Thursday.

The event attracted cake lovers both from the city and from abroad.

Lawrence, a Chennai based confectioner, designed and created 16 cakes in different designs.

“This is New Year’s time, not only in Chennai, but it is a universal function. That’s (why) we plan to make a variety of cake models and in February month ‘Valentines Day’ is coming, so will make 14 different shapes cake models also,” said Lawrence.

Lawrence further said the cakes were made of sugar, a flavour and water combination then they coloured according to the models.

Cakes were shaped in the form of castle, shoe, fish, heart, teddy bear and ship.

“This is a very nice thing to see around such lovely cakes over here. Especially, the fish is very nice, the teddy bear is very nice and I like the wedding cake, and the doll cake is very nice. This is something very new for us to see in Chennai,” said Vandana, a visitor.

Four types of wedding cakes, and replicas of an ancient church, table, clock tower, nemo fish, show box, welcome cake, Christmas tree, lighthouse, flower basket, Barbie doll, and porcupines were also put on show.

A 12 member-team worked 45 days and took 16 hours to design the cakes. They used 1200 kilograms of sugar, refined flour and water. (ANI)
