MWM accuses govt, secret agencies of victimising Shias

LAHORE - The Majlis Wahdat Muslemin (MWM) has accused the government and secret agencies of victimising the people belonging to the Shia school of thought, and warned that pushing one community to the wall can bring dangerous results to Pakistan.

Addressing a press conference at the Lahore Press Club, MWM Deputy Secretary General Ameen Shaheedi said eighteen young men of Shia community had been missing in Karachi over the last two months, and only two of them were produced before the courts after much hue and cry.

He alleged that the rulers and secret agencies were patronising terrorists and banned groups, and warned that the Shia community was being forced to take the law into its hands to retaliate, The News reports.

Pakistan’s blasphemy laws were being misused by banned groups in a manner in which they got mobile phone SIMs issued in the name of rival community people and sent blasphemous messages from them, and then lodged cases against those on whose names the SIMs were issued, Shaheedi added.

He also condemned the blast in Karachi University in which 20 Shia students were injured, adding that Shia students were being victimised by the KU administration. (ANI)
