NEW YORK - Public pressure is mounting on New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg over the poor management of snow clearing up operations in the Apple City.

According to The Telegraph, residents of the city are still trapped in streets buried by two feet of snow several days after the area was hit by an epic storm.

Reports said that the general public is losing patience with Bloomberg.

America’s east coast was struck by a dramatic blizzard between Sunday and Monday, with up to 32 inches of snow falling in a single night.

Thousands of people in New York remain snowed in, as city authorities whose adverse weather routines normally work like clockwork, have failed this time to plough their roads.

The city’s roads are filled with disgruntled residents attempting to clear enormous drifts with shovels, while local media are packed with desperate pleas for help.

Several parts of the city have come to a complete standstill, with buried vehicles strewn across streets and train lines covered with huge snow drifts.

Horror stories have emerged of the city administration not responding in time to emergencies, including emergency calls not being dealt with for 30 hours and people being stuck with the bodies of dead relatives.

Bloomberg’s officials, however, said that the city of New York is short of snow ploughs or tow-trucks to deal with the storm’s aftermath. They also claimed that they were helpless as private firms are also closed between Christmas and the New Year.

On Wednesday, Bloomberg said that he was “extremely dissatisfied with the way the city’s emergency response systems have performed so far, and added that the people have a right to expect a proper response from the administration.

Bloomberg said the sheer scale of the snowfall was simply overwhelming.

“This storm is not like any other we’ve had to deal with, including the big blizzard of 2006,” he said.

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has also been criticized for leaving his snowbound state for a family holiday at Disney World in Florida. (ANI)
