NEW DELHI - T.N. Ninan, editor and publisher of Business Standard, has been elected president of the Editors Guild of India, a statement said Sunday.

He was elected at the guild’s annual general body meeting Friday.

Coomi Kapoor of Indian Express was re-elected general secretary while Suresh Bafna of Nai Duniya was chosen as the new treasurer.

The meeting agreed that as part of the guilds continuing campaign against paid news, the names of all guild members who had signed affidavits to pledge that they would not take part in the “pernicious practice” would be posted on the guilds website from Feb 1, 2011, the statement added.

The guild’s general body also noted that some “well-known editors had not followed the best traditions of journalism” as revealed by the taped conversations of corporate lobbyist Niira Radia in the 2G spectrum scam, the statement said.

The members felt that this had affected the credibility of the media, the statement added.
