Four prisoners escape from Siliguri jail

SILIGURI - Four prisoners fled on Sunday from Correctional Home here in spite of heavy security.
The prisoners escaped by climbing up a 12 feet wall surrounding the correctional home.
Interacting with mediapersons, Thukden Bhutia, Superintendent, Siliguri Special Correctional Home, said higher officials were expected to visit the jail to look into the matter.
” Our Additional D.I.G will be coming over. The four prisoners escaped from our home and they were charged under Narcotic Drugs Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act,” said Bhutia.
Bhutia further said the four prisoners were found to be missing during the roll call during morning hours.
Later, the Additional Superintendent of Police, Gaurav Sharma, moved with security forces to find out the fugitives.
A red alert has been sounded by the authorities in the region and all entry and exit points are being frisked.
The fugitives include Akash Gurung, Matrika Upreti, Md. Anarul Haque and Raju Das.
The Siliguri Correctional Home houses many hardcore criminals convicted for murders. (ANI)
