PURI - Renowned sand artist Sudarshan Patnaik created the world’s biggest green coloured Santa Claus at the Golden beach of Puri to spread the message of ‘Go Green’.

Patnaik on Friday made a 160-feet-long sand sculpture of Santa Claus.

“All the tourists visiting this place will take with them the message of ‘Go Green’, this is the reason why we have coloured the Santa Claus green. The length of this Santa Claus is 160-feet. And a world record has been created that this is the biggest sand Santa Claus in the world made at this beach,” said Patnaik.

In 2006, Patnaik won the Limca Book of Records for making a 100-feet-long sand Santa Claus. But this year, the sculpture is 160-feet-long, 30 feet wide and 30 feet high, and is made by using 1500 tons of sand.

Many school students helped the artist in making the wonderful sculpture.

Tourists who visited the site said the green coloured Santa Claus urges everyone to stop cutting trees and spread the message of greenery.

“All around the world, we see that Santa Claus is normally red but here it’s something different, it’s green. And as we know that global warming has increased a lot, so we should stop cutting trees and we should keep greenery all around and I think this is a message to everyone to stop cutting trees and increase greenery all around the world and its something different,” said Jinni Mohanty, a tourist.

Patnaik has, so far, participated in over 42 international sand sculpture championships across the world and won many awards including 2008 world championship title at Berlin. (ANI)
