SPRINGFIELD, (GaeaTimes.com) An urgent renovation is required for the famous Lady Liberty statue, located at Franklin County. This statue dates back to 1940. is could be found in the Benton Library. Whereas there are a number of statues which are either falling into pieces, Benton Library thinks otherwise. The library wants to keep the statue in its original form and does not wish to sell it for scrap metal. This particular statue had cost $300, at the time it was bought initially. It is a replica of the original Statue of Liberty. The height of Lady Liberty is 8 and-a-half foot tall and weighs 300 pounds. Lady Liberty has been the attraction of Benton Library for over 60 years. but it does not seem as if this structure could last for another five decades if it is not renovated at the earliest. the statue is breaking down with every passing day, and restoration has become a necessity.
Erin Steinsultz - the director of Benton Library revealed that there are a few holes which have been spotted in the statue. These holes are creating all the more damage to the structure since they are allowing water to trickle through the statue. initially, the statue of Lady Liberty was kept outside the library, but due to rain, wind and snow, that statue has been brought inside, in 2008. Vandalism and bad weather played the main role behind the wither of the statue. the statue needs renovation from its top to its bottom. The statue initially had 7 rays in her crown which represented the 7 seas and the 7 continents. But unfortunately, 4 of them have withered away.
Doris Heaton, a member of the public library board says that a freedom plaza is being thought to be constructed, that would house the statue of Lady Liberty. The restoration process is supposed to start from January next year.
