HARYANA - A diesel locomotive derailed after it rammed into a Delhi-bound freight train at Ambala in Haryana on Friday morning.

Besides the locomotive, many wagons of the freight train also derailed. Three were badly damaged.

Senior railway officials, including the Divisional Railway Manager are at the spot with a team of gangmen for salvage operations.

Assessing the damage caused by the collision, P A Sangi, Divisional Railways Manager, Ambala Division said an inquiry has been ordered.

“The damage you can see for yourself that three VFRs and a diesel engine have been derailed. It seems that three bogies (of freight train) have been damaged,” said Sangi.

Sangi further said they are suspecting a case of negligent driving as the diesel engine’s driver is alleged to have jumped a red signal.

Following the incident, the Ambala-Amritsar rail link was closed for several hours, which in turn led to delay and diversion of many trains plying along this trunk route.

No casualties have been reported in the incident. By Paramjeet Singh Virk (ANI)
