NEW YORK - Despite facing a setback during the mid-term polls, events like the recent successful trade deal with South Korea and the approval of the “don’t ask, don’t tell” ban on gays serving openly in the military, appears to be repairing US President Barack Obama’s image, with many observers now reportedly hoping that the “comeback kid” can handle the current situation.

“Is Barack Obama the new Comeback Kid?” The Christian Science Monitor quoted USA Today writers Mimi Hall and Richard Wolf, as saying.

Meanwhile Republican pollster Jon McHenry said that these successful events are a good start for the President.

“This is the start of him looking like he can handle Washington in its current composition. That’s a huge deal,” he added.

In recent days, Obama’s approval ratings among voters have also changed, with a new Wall Street Journal/NBC poll saying that despite struggling in the mid-term polls, his approval and public opinion remains steady.

According to a new Washington Post poll, Obama is doing better than Bill Clinton in 1994 or George W. Bush in 2006, years when the former presidents suffered midterm defeats.

However, Obama still has big hurdles like war in Afghanistan and the economic crisis to deal with, ahead of the presidential polls in 2012. (ANI)
