NEW DELHI - Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi on Sunday supported party president Sonia Gandhi’s remarks and said severe punishment should be given to the corrupt.
Addressing the party’s 83rd plenary session at Burari in northwest Delhi, Rahul Gandhi said: “Whatever the Congress President has said on the issue, has given us inspiration to fight corruption. We require accountability…severe punishment should be given to the corrupt.”
Rahul Gandhi criticised party ministers and chief ministers, asking them to take out some time for the organisation and the party workers.
He further said corruption snatches away the common man’s opportunity to progress.
“Many Ministers and Chief Ministers are sitting here. I want to tell them that give some time to the workers in the organisation. Wherever I go, I get complaints. I know that running a Ministry takes a lot of time, but the workers should also get some time,” said Rahul Gandhi.
“When we cannot connect with our own workers, how can we be able to connect with the grassroots. We say that there is a need to connect people to the organisation. But the fact is that our organisation needs to connect with them,” he added.
Rahul Gandhi thanked his mother Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh for demonstrating their understanding and ability to maintain a balance.
“We must never forget the relationship between growth and distribution of opportunity,” he said. (ANI)
