BANGALORE - Karnataka Police have detained one suspect in connection with the killing of a 29-year-old IT woman employee in Bangalore over the weekend.
Payal Surekha, working as senior technical assistant with computer manufacturing giant Dell, was found dead in her apartment on Friday.
“We have come to know about the murder which has taken place inside the house. The lady who was working in the software company has been murdered in her house. Perhaps, the murder took place yesterday morning,” said Shankar Bidari, Bangalore’s Police Commissioner.
“Yesterday evening it was brought to the notice of police. Our officials have visited the place. We are investigating the case. Investigation involves hard work, please wait for another 24 to 48 hours,” he added.
Anant, the victim’s husband, in his statement to police, said that a few months ago he had a fight with a person whom the police are believed to be questioning.
Syed Munnawar, a neighbour, said that they were at home when the murder took place and an unidentified person came to their place asking for Anant, but nothing looked suspicious.
“This might have happened around 11 a.m. or so, we were at home at that time, we never heard anything, no sound, not even banging of the door sound, nothing suspicious,” said Munnawar.
Meanwhile, the parents of the victim have arrived from Guwahati and are being questioned by the police.
Police had earlier said the case does not seem to be a murder for gain, as the ornaments worn by Surekha were intact and nothing was found missing from the apartment. By Sweta (ANI)
