MELBOURNE - A billboard advertisement in Nelson for Air New Zealand’s Grabaseat with the slogan, “Fares lower than your grandma’s boobs” has been accused of being ageist, tacky and disrespectful to women.

The airline is now removing the billboard that advertises its cheap seat site.

Stop Demand Foundation, which campaigns against sexual violence and abuse, requested the billboard be taken down.

“Most of us like ‘edgy and provocative’,” the Age quoted Stop Demand founder Denise Ritchie as writing to Air NZ.

“Most of us don’t like, or accept, ’sexist and ageist’. Most of us know the difference. Apparently you do not,” she wrote.

Grabaseat manager Duane Perrott said the slogan was an entry in a competition from a Wellington resident whose grandmother lived in Nelson.

“What this person thought was funny, as did many others, clearly didn’t resonate with some individuals,” Perrott said. (ANI)
