School Closings In Virginia

RICHMOND (GaeaTimes.com)- On Thursday many schools and colleges in Virginia were shut down due to the extreme weather conditions that the region is currently experiencing. The heavy snowfall accompanied by constant rain that is freezing, the school authorities opted for school closings. It has not been confirmed as to when will the classes will be resuming back. Road conditions in Virginia is extremely hazardous and are posing a life risk for the drivers.

According to weather department official reports almost all the roads in the southern Mid-Atlantic US state of Virginia are covered with snow. The snow depth on the roads has been reported in between 2-5 inches which means it is extremely perilous to travel on such roads. School closings during such weather conditions is not something new. A Virginia school spokesperson said that keeping in mind the safety of the students as well as the staff school authorities have decided to shut down for the time being. They might take place today. However, nothing is confirmed. Bus routes have been declared to be risky.

Not only the risk if accidents are looming high but also the problem of power losses. Many people in Virginia and North Carolina are having the problem of power loss. Last night a party which was supposed to be held at the Governor’s Mansion had to be canceled owing to this problem. According to sources, there have already been reports of several accidents, of which four are said to be fatal. All these factors together has led to decision of school closings in the state of Virginia. Bus routes have been declared to be risky.
