KARACHI - To avoid any untoward incident of terrorism or crime during Muharram, which falls on Friday, the Karachi Capital City Police will deploy 5, 700 of its personel to monitor the mourning processions.

Disclosing this, senior police officer Fayyaz Laghari told the Daily Times that 1,000 commandos of the Special Protection Group (SPG); personnel of the Special Branch, Crime Investigation Department (CID), Special Investigation Unit (SIU) and traffic police and others would also be deployed.

According to a new security plan, the police have chalked out separate routes for fire brigade tenders and ambulances since there is a possibility that terrorists could use these vehicles for their nefarious purposes.

Talking about monitoring the routes of the main processions, the city police chief said the Bomb Disposal Squad would check all the routes before the arrival of the processions.

Police have also changed the security plan for hospitals and closed-circuit television cameras have also been installed along the routes of the main processions. Aerial surveillance would also be carried out with the help of helicopters. (ANI)
