Militant surrender policy will not endanger India: Abdullah

JAMMU - Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday rejected criticism of his government’s proposed surrender policy for youths who had ex-filtrated from Jammu and Kashmir for arms training in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and Pakistan, saying that it would not endanger the country.

“There is nothing in the policy that will pose a danger to the country,” Abdullah told reporters after the inauguration of a university-industry council symposium in University of Jammu here.

“We have worked a lot on this policy. We have also taken the Centre into confidence. There has been a lot of discussion over it,” he added.

“We have formulated this policy along with Home Minister P. Chidambaram after minutely viewing all aspects,” he said.

Charging some political parties of playing politics on the issue, Abdullah said: “People would be benefited from it and no one will lose anything.”

He was speaking as the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party announced a plan for a three-hour shutdown here on Saturday to protest against the surrender policy.

The BJP has claimed that the policy will lead to an increase in militancy related incidents despite the various safeguards. (ANI)
