NEW DELHI - Indian athletes, including Ranjan Singh Sodhi, Manavjit Singh Sandhu, Mansher Singh and Zoravar Singh Sandhu received rousing welcome at the Indira Gandhi International Airport here on Monday.

Speaking to media persons, Sodhi who clinched the gold medal in shooting said: “I am happy with my performance.”

” There is some disappointment indeed, as we could not win more gold medals. The shooters could not repeat their performance as they did in the Commonwealth Games as there was very short duration between them (Commonwealth Games) and Asian Games. So they had less time to prepare,” he added.

Farokh Tarapore, who led India to silver success in Open Match Racing, said: “We were very clear in our methodology to go around. We were 2-0 down and I told my team mates, lets not count the points, lets do one rower at a time and they did exactly that. And its not that we were in this situation for the first time, we had been in pressure situations earlier.”

“We had won the selection race in a similar process. After three races we were 2-1 down. So we were used to pressure situations,” he added.

The Indian team is currently at the eighth spot at the Asian Games with six golds, 12 silvers and 18 bronze medals.

The 16-day-long sports event features 42 sports, including 28 Olympic sports and 14 non-Olympic sports, and ends on Saturday. (ANI)
