AGARTALA - Devotees celebrated ‘Maha Raas’, which marks Lord Krishna’s love for his beloved Radha on the occasion of Kartik Poornima during the weekend.irls in traditional attire enacted the role of ‘Gopis’ and danced around the idols of Lord Krishna and Radha.
The ‘Maha Raas’ celebration in Tripura dates back to the time when a queen of the Manikya Dynasty from neighbouring Manipur brought the idol of Radha-Krishna and established it at the Radsamadhav temple in the region.
“This festival belongs to Manipuri community. This is an historical event and it has been celebrated in this temple for over 212 years. This festival is not only celebrated by the Manipuri community but people from various communities like Bengalis and Manipuris; even tribals celebrate this festival with utmost rational fervour,” said Uttam Kumar Singh, a devotee.
“Actually every year I come to see this ‘Raas Poornima’. It is a very good occasion for me and I enjoyed. This is not only celebrated by the Manipuris but along with them, Bengalis and tribals come here to enjoy this day and I hope this day brings harmony, tranquillity and friendship,” said Ratneshwar Bhowmik, another devotee By Pinaki Das(ANI)
