NEW DELHI - Both House of Parliament were adjourned till Tuesday as opposition members continued to demand a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into the 2G spectrum allocation scam.

As soon the house met for the day, opposition members trooped into the Well of the House demanding a Joint Parliamentary Committee probe in the alleged irregularities in 2G spectrum allocation.

Congress members were also seen in the aisles waving placards ‘Punish Yeddyurappa to protect Karnataka from mining mafia’, ‘Book Bellary Brothers’, ‘Sack Yeddyurappa’.

Amid sloganeering by opposition members, including BJP, AIADMK, SP, Shiv Sena and counter-slogans from Congress members, Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar adjourned the house.

The Rajya Sabha also witnessed similar scenes.

Opposition BJP and AIADMK members rushed to the well of the house, demanding the setting up of a JPC to probe the 2G spectrum issue.

As the uproar persisted, Upper House Chairman Hamid Ansari adjourned the house till Tuesday.

The Winter Session of Parliament began on November 9 and has witnessed repeated adjournments over the opposition’s insistence for a JPC probe into the scam, even after A. Raja resigned as Communications and IT Minister last Sunday.

Both the BJP and the Left have noted that a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) enquiry into the matter cannot be taken seriously.

The 2G spectrum allocation has reportedly caused an alleged loss of Rs1.76 lakh crores to the Government, the CAG has stated in a damning report.

The report further states that Raja had no apparent logical or valid reason to ignore the advice of the Law and Finance Ministries while allocating telecom spectrum to several firms in 2007-08. (ANI)
