Meet the 21st century version of Oz bogans

MELBOURNE - Forget the flannie shirt, Winnie Blues and ugg boots, the new-age bogan is more likely to be spotted sporting a designer Ed Hardy T-shirt, drinking imported beer and relaxing in a Balinese themed home, says a new book.
‘Things Bogans Like’, a spin-off from a satirical website of the same name, tracks the trends of the much-misunderstood species.
The authors of the book have claimed that the 21st Century version of the bogan is more complicated-and often more cashed-up-than its previous incarnations.
A love of TV series ‘Underbelly’ is a dead giveaway, it claims, as is a 50-inch-plus TV, a Southern cross tattoo or a constant compulsion to tan.
With his customised number plates, super screen TV and unusually spelled first name, 22-year-old Adham Davies, of Trott Park, in Adelaide, ticks most of the “new bogan” boxes.
The Coles manager said he was surprised he met the criteria for being a bogan, but found the idea amusing.
“It’s a bit weird - I generally associate bogans with overtly crude and loud people wearing footy shorts, singlets and thongs,” the Daily Telegraph quoted him as saying.
“I wouldn’t really consider myself a bogan, but I suppose some people might.
“But it’s all just a bit of fun, tongue-in-cheek. If you can’t laugh at yourself, who can you laugh at? he said. (ANI)
