SRINAGAR - The Indian Army on Sunday organized a cycle expedition from Srinagar to the Poonch District to commemorate the Poonch Link Up Day.
General Officer Commanding 15 Corps, Lt. Gen N. C. Marwah flagged off the expedition, which would end on Monday.
“We feel lucky that we had an opportunity to cycle through this way by mountain terrain bikes. The significance of this is, as I told you, to commemorate Poonch Link up Day. This rally was flagged off in Srinagar and will be ending on 22nd,” said Sumit Abrol, Lieutenant Colonel, 6 Kumaon Regiment.
Abrol further added that once the road is metalled, it would play an important role in regional trade and the Army’s strategy planning.
“When this route will be metalled by next year, it would be an essential route for the whole region. It would link up the valleys in the Kashmir region, and would help in inter-regional trade and also the Army in strategic planning,” he said.
The rally’s objective is also to motivate Army aspirants.
“We are representing a cycle rally which would help in boosting the aspirations of youth to join Army. We have also conducted many camps. We like it because through these activities we get to experience adventure,” said Chaitanaya, an official of 6 Kumaon Regiment.
The 15-member team will traverse a distance of 196 kilometers through the hilly regions of the State, including Pulwama-Shopian-Hirpur-Dubjan and Pir Gali Districts, situated at an attitude of 3500m before reaching Poonch on November 22. (ANI)
