Ex-JetBlue flight attendant joins Mile High Text Club

NEW YORK - The former jetBlue flight attendant, who made headlines when he quit his job and then deployed the evacuation slide of the plane he was on, is set to introduce the “Mile High Text Club” contest.
Steven Slater joined forces with cell phone software company Toktumi for the contest, which invites frequent travellers to submit their “craziest” travel experiences via text message for a chance to win prizes.
“When it came to discussing crazy behaviour on an airplane, apparently my name just kind of bubbled up,” the New York Daily News quoted him as saying.
The stories, which must be submitted using Toktumi’s Line2 phone app, will be published on the company’s “Mile High Text Club” website, where readers can vote for their favourites.
Toktumi’s CEO Peter Sisson says he designed the contest with Slater in mind, to return air travel to the point where passengers are at least polite to each other.
“After talking with Steven, I realized that despite his dramatic approach - which he regrets - he was making a statement about the need to return civility and common courtesy to flying,” Sisson stated.
The Line2 software will allow travellers to use Wi-Fi on equipped planes to send text messages from the air, which Sisson argues is much more respectful than making phone calls in flight. (ANI)
