MIR ALI - A suspected US drone strike hit a Taliban stronghold in Pakistan near the Afghan border on Saturday, killing five alleged militants-at least three of them believed to be foreigners- intelligence and government officials said.
Three missiles struck their target just outside Miranshah, the main town in North Waziristan, when the militants were travelling in a vehicle, the Daily Times reported.
Two local government officials confirmed the strike on the condition of anonymity, as they were not authorised to speak to the media.
The attack was the seventh this month, and underscored America’s increasing reliance on drone-fired missiles to take out targets it deems a danger to its war effort in Afghanistan.
This year, nearly 100 such strikes have occurred in Pakistan so far, which is a major surge as compared to the previous years. (ANI)
