LATEHAR - Relatives of Maoists cadres have filed their nomination papers for Panchayat elections in Jharkhand.
Phoolmati, whose husband is a Maoist cadre, has filed her name as a candidate for the post of Panchayat head from Sasangh constituency of Latehar District.
“I don’t have any interest in what they are saying. If I have said that I’ll fight elections, then I will participate (in elections),” said Phoolmati.
Phoolmati also said if she gets elected, she would work for the development of village.
“I will work for the progress of the village. I will build roads, schools and every thing that our village lacks,” she said.
Deputy Election Commissioner Rahul Purvar said the government cannot bar citizens from filling their nominations in elections but if any candidate is scrutinised as having an illegal background, then strict action would be taken against them.
“As far as Panchayat elections are concerned, there are few rules and regulations and those who are following them can participate in the elections. There are also provisions for the scrutiny of wrong candidates, and once they are identified, action will be taken against them,” said Purvar.
The Panchayat elections are scheduled in December. (ANI)
