KARACHI - The magnitude of the explosion that occurred in the Karachi CID building attack was 1.3 on Richter scale, the metrological department has revealed.

The Chief Metrological Officer said that the intensity of blast in Karachi was 1.3 as recorded on the Richter scale, terming the shock wave ‘minor’ in nature, Geo News reported.

The shock wave that erupted with the explosion was recorded at 8:20 pm, he said, adding that the blast was so powerful that it shook almost half of the metropolis.

On Thursday night, militants had rammed a truck laden with some 1,000 kilograms of explosives into Karachi’s CID compound, which is only hundreds of meters away from the United States consulate, the provincial chief minister’s residence, and numerous luxury hotels.

The massive explosion ripped through the highly guarded Red Zone area in Karachi as it hit the police building, killing at least 18 persons and injuring another 138. (ANI)
