Hindus laud Archbishop of Canterbury for ‘joyful’ Diwali wishes

NEVADA - Hindus have applauded Archbishop of Canterbury Dr. Rowan Douglas Williams for his Diwali message wishing ‘joyful festival’ to ‘Hindu communities’ published on the Archbishop’s official website.

Prominent Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, welcomed Archbishop’s offer: “I look forward to speaking further with you about light, jnana and bhakti at future dialogue meetings in the New Year”.

Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, stressed that all religions should work together for a just and peaceful world. He urged Archbishop Williams to explore the rich philosophy which Hindu scriptures offered.

Rajan Zed says that in our shared pursuit for the truth, we can learn from one another and thus can arrive nearer to the truth. This dialogue may help us vanquish the stereotypes, prejudices, caricatures, etc., passed on to us from previous generations. As dialogue brings us reciprocal enrichment, we shall be spiritually richer than before the contact.

Archbishop Williams is the senior bishop of the worldwide Anglicans, a Christian denomination, who number around 77 million. Hinduism, oldest and third largest religion of the world has about one billion adherents and moksh (liberation) is its ultimate goal. Largest of Hindu festivals Diwali, the festival of lights, aims at dispelling the darkness and lighting up the lives and symbolizes the victory of good over evil. (ANI)
