NEW DELHI - Both Houses of Parliament were adjourned for the day as opposition members demanded a joint parliamentary committee (JPC) probe into the 2G spectrum, Adarsh housing society and Commonwealth Games corruption scams.

As soon as both House met, Opposition members led by Bharatiya Janata Party did not allow the Question Hour to be held by trooping into the well raising slogans, leading to adjournment till noon.

When the two Houses reassembled, Opposition members again raised the issue leading to their adjournment for the day.

They were demanding removal of Telecom Minister A Raja and an enquiry by a Joint Parliamentary Committee into the Commonwealth Games scam.

Some of them displayed newspapers carrying reports on alleged complicity of A Raja in 2G Spectrum allocations.

CPI (M) leader Basudeb Acharia said: “The entire nation has been ashamed. Though Ashok Chavan has resigned, mere quitting the post of Chief Minister is not enough. An independent probe (into the Adarsh Housing Society scam) is required.”

In Rajya Sabha, Leader of the Opposition Arun Jaitley said: “Since the last session of Parliament, there have been “unprecedented rise in cases of corruption in high places that have come to notice.”

He also referred the alleged scam in allocation of second generation or 2G spectrum to new telecom companies, reports of corruption in the CWG 2010 and irregularities in Adarsh Housing society.

As he questioned the role of Telecom Minister A Raja in the scam, Opposition benches shouted slogans.

Chairman Hamid Ansari asked members not to raise slogans and said some of the subjects raised by the Leader of the Opposition have been included by the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) for discussion during the current session.

The Opposition members were, however, unrelenting and forced Chairman Hamid Ansari to adjourn the House till noon. (ANI)
