Sushma Swaraj targets govt on corruption

NEW DELHI - Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj on Tuesday said that the government was scam-ridden and not enough action has been taken in regards to the scams.

Addressing the Lok Sabha, Swaraj said: “Since the UPA has come into power each day some scam has broken out. Between the monsoon and winter session of Parliament it seems that the government is scam-ridden.”

“The government should come clean in the floor of the House,” she added.

She further said the government need to take action against A Raja, who is involved in the 2G-spectrum scam.

Meanwhile, JD (U) Chief Sharad Yadav alleged that the Commonwealth Games scam is bigger than what was originally thought.

He said that unimaginable amount of money has been laundered by the government in the name of the Commonwealth Games.

Earlier in the day, as soon as the session began, members from the Left and some regional parties in the Lok Sabha, including Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav, first refused to let the question hour proceed.

They were demanding a discussion on graft issues.

The protesting MPs also raised the issue of Army Chief V.K. Singh’s remark that the Adarsh Society scam had shamed the armed forces of India.

Communist Party of India-Marxist leader Basudeb Acharia raised corruption allegations related to 2G-spectrum allocation. He also demanded a joint parliamentary probe into the Games imbroglio.

Speaker Meira Kumar pleaded with members that any issue could be raised during the zero hour while Parliamentary Affairs Minister P.K. Bansal said a notice needed to be given before initiating a discussion.

The Winter Session of Parliament will conclude December 13. (ANI)
